My dear friend Karla has been traveling, on top of being in clinics, and was not able to see Barnum. So, after tonight’s show I made this video for her! We all do lots of tricks in the show, but the silks were my most unusual experience. That, and flipping through Barnum’s legs.
The video has most of my tricks on the silks, but of course in the show each trick is presented, so the routines take longer. We learned that circus people call this presentation “styling.” Style on! Thanks to Frankie for video-ing =)

This is a story of how friends can make crappy situations better.
I had not gone out dancing in a LONG time. And since the Barnum crew decided this past Saturday night’s post-show antics should take place in Philly, five blocks from my house, I had to go. So, a couple of us carpooled back from the show to Sisters. I had intended to drive home, park, and walk over, but instead I figured I would spare the 4-inch heels a walk, park close to the club and pay the meter.
We parked at 13th and Locust. The parking sign said paid permits were required until 12am, so I paid up until then. We went, we danced, we had a great time! (Especially Shannon…she’s got stories.) Megan and Ryan also came later, after I stopped taking pictures, so they aren’t in these candids.
We exited about 1:45am, intending to beat the post-bar/club rush to the pizza place. And that’s when I noticed my car was not where I parked it. And THEN I read the damning sign: Tow Zone, 12am-6:30am. Well. WELL. Expletives. The PPA got me again.
So the pizza never happened. Frankie and Matt were dolls and took me to the PPA impound lot, with Nan and Shan (FerNando and Shannon) accompanying. Theatre folks can roll with anything, bless them. I would have been more raging mad if I had the energy, but by that hour of night I was so defeated I would have been the most amicable and boring episode of Parking Wars ever. I could go on for hours ranting at the PPA, as I’m sure many in this city do. But my friends were there, they didn’t let me kick myself or go the miserable path alone. They stood by, hammed for potential TV cameras, and kept me company until all was settled. Cuz that’s how they roll.
Oooh, another positive review for Barnum!
